BACKGROUND

Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (MFWG) was founded as a forum for microfinance practitioners to share experiences, to facilitate debate over current issues and to engage policy makers with a unified voice. Founded in 2004 as an informal organization under the VUFO-NGO Resource Center, MFWG is open to all individuals and organizations interested in microfinance in Vietnam.

Our service includes Capacity building through trainings, workshops, conferences; Fund raising; Advocacy; Information dissemination through bi-annual bulletins, newsletter, mailing list, data collection.

MFWG network consists of more than 60 members from 40 organizations activating in microfinance sector in Vietnam.

VMFWG News

1. Since September 5th 2011, Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (MFWG) has become a formal organization under Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VNASME). From now on, MFWG has an independent stamp and bank account to cooperate with donors, partners and other stakeholders in the coming years. The new Board of Director of the MFWG will be elected in December 2011 for the three coming years.
 
2. 57 representatives from 29 organizations has commented on three drafts of microfinance regulations and guidelines in the MFWG’s workshop on August 13th 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Three new drafts of regulations and guidelines for microfinance operation setting up, opening branches, and financial procedures in Vietnam  developed by State Bank of Vietnam and Ministry of Finance was shared and discussed with 57 representatives in the conference. The discussion and comments on these three guidlines was summarized and submitted to SBV on August 30th 2011 and presented directly to SBV on September 9th 2011 by Advocacy Team of MFWG. According to the workshop evaluation, there are 87%  of participants assess that the workshop contents are very useful and meet their needs, and 77%  are satisfied with workshops program.
 
3. Based on the members’ demand on information sharing survey and microfinance information development in other countries, Microfinance Bulletin No. 17 with the theme” Capital Access and Social Performance” published in August 2011. To be specific, the Bulletin has provided assessment of microfinance loan capital context in Vietnam and meanings/roles of social performance management on the development of microfinance institutions. The Bulletin especially includes the CGAP Cross-Border Survey 2010 on Asia and MF benchmark in Vietnam with 30 microfinance organizations' data.
