Microfinance Disaster Management Workshop

The Banking With The Poor Network in collaboration with the Foundation for Development Cooperation and Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. with funding support from Citi Foundation, had organized the Microfinance Disaster Management Workshop in Manila on November 29-30, 2011. This workshop was designed to help MFIs develop strategies for disaster preparedness, and to respond more effectively in the wake of a natural disaster.

The Banking With the Poor Network (BWTP) the SEEP Network, ADA, Citi Foundation, The Foundation for Development Cooperation (FDC) and the Microfinance Council of the Philippines (MCPI), are pleased to convene the fourth annual Asia Network Summit (ANS) 2011 scheduled for July 26 - 27, 2011, in Manila, the Philippines. The ANS 2011 will provide an opportunity for the representatives of microfinance networks from across Asia to discuss key areas of interest on product service and innovation, managing donor relationships, consumer protection and risk management and regional network collaboration.

Asia Network Summit 2010
11-12 October 2010 | Colombo, Sri Lanka
The Asia Network Summit, the only gathering of Asia’s national microfinance networks, was held on 11 – 12 October 2010. The summit was proceeded by the Asia Microfinance Forum 2010 on the 12 – 15 October.
The theme of the Asia Microfinance Forum 2010 was “Financial Inclusion: Achieving Asia’s Potential”, and the agenda will reflect the varied challenges for microfinance in contributing to this policy goal.

The Banking With the Poor Network (BWTP) and The Foundation for Development Cooperation (FDC) with lead sponsorship from the Citi Foundation, were pleased to convene the Asia Microfinance Forum 2010 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, October 12-15, 2010.
The Asia Microfinance Forum 2010 would build upon the success of the previous Asia Microfinance Forums (Beijing, 2006 and Hanoi, 2008) and aimed to help prepare the microfinance industry in Asia for a wide range of future challenges and opportunities. Read more... |

Asia Network Summit 2009

The Asia Network Summit (ANS) is a unique event bringing together microfinance networks from across the Asia region. Following from a successful Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2008, the BWTP Network aims to expand the ANS 2009 to include more networks from the region and use a workshop approach to increase value for participants.
The Summit intends to further increase collaboration, information and knowledge exchange between networks and provide opportunities for technical exchange on shared issues of importance. Read more... |

The BWTP Network Microfinance and Disaster Management Workshops (MFDM) were conducted as a part of the ‘Strengthening microfinance in Asia through information sharing and capacity building’ project funded by the Citi Foundation. The Banking With the Poor Network (BWTP) and the Foundation for Development Cooperation (FDC), with funding from the Citi Foundation, were pleased to convene the Asia Microfinance Forum 2008 held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from August 26 -29, 2008. The Asia Microfinance Forum 2008 was held in association with PlaNet Finance Group and the European Union, and in collaboration with the State Bank of Vietnam. This milestone event brought together over 500 leading microfinance practitioners, policymakers, financiers, academics and advocates from around the world and outlined their visions and priorities, and explored new ideas and opportunities. Capacity Building for Partnerships in Microfinance

In recent years, innovative business models based on linkages between specialist organizations including banks, microfinance institutions, self- help groups and NGOs have shown promise to substantially change the way financial services are delivered to the poor, both in terms of scale of outreach and increased diversity of services offered. Innovative partnership approaches are opening up new streams of funding for MFIs, which translate into expanded outreach and new levels of financial sustainability. Drawing on this work, and the experience of its member organisations, the BWTP was happy to organise the 2006 Asia Microfinance Forum on the theme of “Partnerships and Innovations: Increasing the Impact of Microfinance in Asia”.
