MEMBER OVERVIEW

Background: 

Jinnah Welfare Society is a non-profit social development organization serving urban and rural areas of the district Gujranwala. JWS was established in 1990 by a group of like minded people with the mandate to eradicate poverty from deprived communities. The organization is registered with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Government of the Punjab, Lahore under Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration & Control Ordinance) XLVI-1961 vide registration No. DDSW-GRW (REGD)/92-285 dated 28th March, 1992.

JWS conducts integrated participatory development projects aimed at organizing the people, enhancing the skills through capacity building and Micro Credit Enterprise & Development Programs.   JWS work for social and economic development mainly landless or small farmers, rural workers, artisans and micro entrepreneurs.  The number of families improving social and economic status is increasing.  In future JWS will continue such practices to reduce the poverty level of all communities.

Mission:

The mission of JWS is Socially, economically and politically develop marginalized communities especially women, children, farmers, through mobilization and group formation, capacity development, information and knowledge building, economic support and advocating their rights.

CORE COMPONENTS

Micro Credit & Enterprise Development program (MCEDP)
The MCEDP Unit of JWS manages the micro credit and enterprise development Program of the JWS in accordance with an approved eligibility criteria. The unit focuses on the identification of credible marginalized individual and communities which are selected through a transparent and rigorous process. The objective is to select actually marginalized communities which can prove themselves with support and assistance of the JWS.  JWS can become efficient intermediaries for cost effective and sustainable delivery of financial services to the beneficiaries.
Community Physical Infrastructure (CPI)
The Community Physical Infrastructure Unit of the JWS provides support in the form of grants to local marginalized communities to improve the basic physical infrastructure sewerage system.  Identification of the CPI Schemes is demand driven, and is determined by the communities through an internal and external participatory process. For purposes of ownership it is mandatory for the communities to share in the costs of the project, and also to maintain the infrastructure provided.
Humane and Institutional Development
The human and institutional development section plays a major role in developing the capacities of communities to effectively manage their business.
( The main objective of the unit is to strengthen institutional capacities and human resource base of the partner organizations so they are able to deliver efficient and cost effective services to the end beneficiaries. Financial and non financial assistance is provided to support incremental expansion in outreach and attain long term sustainability.)
Networking and Linkages
In the present era of technology, world has become a global village and no can remain unaffected by the changes and events occurring in this global village. In these circumstances every society should be ready to face the challenges of globalization in modern era; advanced societies are struggling to manipulate the resources.

In Pakistan majority of population is poor and living below the poverty. Many institutions like PPAF, FSSP, OPP-Oct etc, are working at National level for poverty alleviation, in addition to Government’s efforts for poverty eradication. 

Seven organizations from central Punjab decided to initiate networking activity to address this pressing need of the sector, by naming their initiative as Punjab Microfinance Network(PMFN).
